Jorge Eckardt
I’m a graduate of the University of Connecticut with degrees in journalism and communications.
Currently, I’m working as a copy editor for the Hearst Connecticut Media Group.
I work as a freelance beat reporter for The Rockaway Wave, a newspaper based in Queens, New York, covering the Brooklyn Cyclones for the past five seasons.
On June 29, 2026, I launched a newsletter with a partner covering all things baseball. We produce four stories a week—a weekly preview, a prospects story and two columns—about what in baseball has our attention at that moment. The newsletter can be found at thequalitystart.com.
I also write for Metsmerized Online, contributing to the site’s coverage of the New York Mets. I have had bylines over the past four years at a few other websites, including blogs at SB Nation and FanSided.
At UConn, I spent four years writing for the student newspaper, The Daily Campus. While there, I worked as a beat reporter and columnist, covering a wide range of sports including men’s and women’s basketball, football, men’s and women’s hockey and more. I was also involved in the production of the newspaper, working as both a copy editor and designer multiple nights a week.
