Calm down about the Padres

Posted on May 15, 2021May 26, 2021 by jorge3111 in Baseball, Writing

The San Diego Padres are a very, very good baseball team. With the roster currently constructed, there is no reason why they shouldn't be a playoff team. But, it's time to ease off the gas when talking about just how good they really are. | Originally published March 1, 2021

Dear writers, please don’t put Curt Schilling in the Hall of Fame

Posted on May 15, 2021May 26, 2021 by jorge3111 in Baseball, Writing

Earlier this week, former MLB pitcher Curt Schilling missed out on being elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame for the ninth straight year. This time it was by his closest margin ever, falling just 16 votes shy of the 301 needed for election. | Originally published January 29, 2021

The Yankees need to trade Aaron Judge

Posted on May 14, 2021May 26, 2021 by jorge3111 in Baseball, Writing

Aaron Judge is a great baseball player. When healthy, he's one of the best bats and gloves in the game. But he's so rarely fully healthy. It's time for the Yankees to cut bait and cash out. | Originally published October 25, 2020

Fernando Tatis Jr. did nothing wrong

Posted on May 14, 2021May 26, 2021 by jorge3111 in Baseball, Writing

Major League Baseball has a marketing problem. They seemingly just can’t figure out how to successfully attract a younger generation of fans. Recently, Fernando Tatis got flack for just doing his job, hitting a home run. It's time to just Let. The. Kids. Play. | Originally published August 18, 2020

Pitchers can and should win MVP

Posted on May 14, 2021May 26, 2021 by jorge3111 in Baseball, Writing

Pitchers have won the MVP award in baseball before. Clayton Kershaw won the NL MVP in 2014. Justin Verlander won the AL MVP in 2011. Dennis Eckersley won the AL MVP in 1992. Wow, that was a large gap. It happens, but not nearly as much as it should. Why is that? | Originally published October 25, 2020

J.D. Davis is the best hitter on the Mets

Posted on May 14, 2021May 26, 2021 by jorge3111 in Baseball, Writing

In November, I wrote an article titled “The case for keeping J.D. Davis” for my student newspaper. Now, I’m doubling down. This time, because the Mets clearly did keep Davis, I’m going to prove why he needs to be in the lineup every single day. | Originally published June 2, 2020

A deep-dive into the longest at-bat in MLB history

Posted on May 14, 2021May 26, 2021 by jorge3111 in Baseball, Writing

Earlier this week while I was playing MLB The Show I had a 17-pitch at-bat, which got me thinking, what is the longest at-bat in MLB history? Turns out, it was much more recent than I would have guessed. | Originally published April 9, 2020

Posted on May 12, 2021May 26, 2021 by jorge3111 in Baseball, Writing

When the Houston Astros stole signs and essentially stole a World Series, it ruined a huge moment for a city that needed it along with countless smaller moments for people around the country. | Originally published January 22, 2020
